Humorist, inspirational speaker and Methodist Jeanne Robertson was unique in her ability to share Southern-based anecdotes within a mix of women's mega-church prayer conference and stand-up comedy.

Her fans, typically Southern Protestants, surely miss her, but YouTube videos live on. The statuesque Miss North Carolina 1963 passed away in 2021.

My favorite of her tales is of rafting with Baptists. Part of a group of two dozen Episcopalians, Methodists, Presbyterians, Catholics and Baptists, she and her husband signed up for a Colorado River whitewater trip.

After a rough first day on the water, the guide offered wine, perfectly cooled by the river, at sundown campfire. The abstaining Baptists politely declined.

Following another exhausting day there was more wine at eventide; the Baptists approached cautiously and sampled fruits of the vine.
