Ratan Naval Tata breathed his last at the Breach Candy hospital on October 9, 2024 at the age of 86. The doyen of the over a century old Tata Group helmed the venture to become one of the most respected and profitable brands from India, raking in billions. He was the chairperson of the Tata conglomerate from 1991 till 2012 when he reigned at the age of 75. He returned as the interim chairman during the turbulent phase of 2016-17 after the exit of relative Cyrus Mistry from the company. The iconic industrialist was renowned for his gentle nature, integrity, business acumen, compassion for strays, and charities. He graduated from the prestigious Cornell University in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in architecture. Ratan started his career in Tata in the early 1970s with a managerial position. After JRD Tata's retirement in 1991, Ratan Tata stepped up to steer the company for the next two decades. Under his leadership the Tata group acquired some of the more iconic brands including Jaguar Land Rover, Corus, and Tetley. The philanthropist who could have been the richest billionaire shunned from the net-worth race and instead quietly carried on the legacy of Tata. The octogenarian was hospitalized a couple days back but had allied any concern for health with a social media post. The nation is mourning his loss as a tsunami of tributes flood the internet. Mortal remains of the industrialist is kept at the NCPA lawns for the public to pay respects between 10 am and 3 pm, before the last rites will be performed, which will be a state funeral.
