MILLINGTON, Tenn. - An investigation is underway by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) after gunfire was exchanged between a deputy and a suspect in Tipton County on Sunday evening, Tipton County Sheriff Shannon Beasley said in a social media post.

TBI special agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened on Fleetwood Drive in Tipton County, according to TBI.

Preliminary information advised that a deputy came to the scene where a suspect was making threats with a gun.

The deputy came into contact with the armed suspect who refused to cooperate and was making suicidal threats, Sheriff Beasley said.

Gunfire was exchanged by law enforcement and the suspect, Sheriff Beasley said.

This is an ongoing investigation.
