Here are the nominees for The Observer's high school athlete of the week.
Nathan Bird, Providence soccer: The Panthers' senior scored a goal and had one assist in a 6-0 win over Butler on Oct. 7.
Bird has 11 goals and four assists for Providence (11-6-1) this season.
Grant Ellis, Bradford Prep soccer: The Bears' junior scored two goals in a 9-1 win at Langtree Charter on Oct. 7.
Ellis also scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Pine Lake Prep on Oct. 9.
Bradford Prep (11-2) also won 2-1 at Mountain Island Charter on Oct. 10.
Ellis has nine goals and one assist in six games played for Bradford Prep this season.
Chayce Johnson, Covenant Day soccer: The Lions' freshman scored a goal in a 5-0 win over Cannon School on Oct. 8.
Johnson also scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Charlotte Country Day on Oct. 10.
Johnson has four goals and one assist for Covenant Day (11-5) this season.
Brayden Jolly, Mountain Island Charter cross-country: The Raptors' senior ran an 18:28.16 to win the Mountain Island Charter Run Pink Invitational on Oct. 8.
Jolly, who won the race by 11 seconds, led the host team to a one-point team victory over Community School of Davidson at the same meet.
Grayson Anne McCurdy, Charlotte Country Day: The Buccaneers' senior scored a goal in a 3-2 win over Marvin Ridge on Oct. 7.
McCurdy also scored three goals in a 7-0 victory over Covenant Day on Oct. 10.
McCurdy, a James Madison lacrosse commit, has 13 goals and four assists for Charlotte Country Day (13-3) this season.
Annie Miller, Metrolina Christian cross-country: The Warriors' senior ran a personal and school-record 17:42.10 to win her second straight Union County Championship at McAlpine Creek Park on Oct. 9.
Miller, who won the race by 16 seconds, helped the Metrolina Christian girls' cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the same meet.
Miller became only the seventh girl to win the Union County cross-country title twice in the 24-year history of the event.
Bryant Moore, West Iredell cross-country: The Warriors' sophomore ran a 16:35.96 to win the John F. Hall United Way Cross Country Invitational at Southside Park in Newton on Oct. 9.
Moore, who won the race by nearly 14 seconds, led the West Iredell boys' cross country team to a sixth-place finish at the same meet.
Ishan More, Marvin Ridge cross-country: The Mavericks' senior ran a personal-best 15:41.10 to win the Southern Carolinas' conference and the Union County titles at McAlpine Creek Park on Oct. 10.
More, who earned conference runner of the year, also led the Marvin Ridge boys' cross-country team to a conference title the same day.
Caroline Noonan, Charlotte Christian volleyball: The Knights' senior outside hitter had 21 kills, nine digs and three aces to lead Charlotte Christian to a 3-0 win over Cannon School on Oct. 10.
Charlotte Christian beat Cannon School for the first time since 2014.
Noonan also had 12 kills, nine digs and two aces in a 3-0 loss at Providence Day on Oct. 8.
Noonan has 257 kills, 131 digs, 69 aces and 26 blocks for Charlotte Christian (10-5) this season.
Madison Park, Myers Park golf: The Mustangs' junior shot a 2-under-par 70, to finish fifth at the Pinecrest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 6 on Oct. 9.
Park, who had two birdies in her round, also led the Myers Park girls' golf team to a runner-up finish in the 23-team field at the same event.
Triston Rabon, Lake Norman cross-country: The Wildcats' senior ran a personal-best 16:14.69 to win the Greater Metro 4A conference title at Selma Burke Middle School in Mooresville on Oct. 9.
Rabon's run also helped the Lake Norman boys' cross country team to a third-place finish at the same meet.
Teagan Reilly, Myers Park tennis: The Mustangs' junior won the SoMeck 4A conference singles' title for the third straight year Oct. 8.
Reilly is a perfect 17-0 overall at No. 1 singles for Myers Park (17-0) this season.
Amira Sahley, Lake Norman volleyball: The Wildcats' senior setter had 25 assists, nine digs and four aces in a 3-1 win at South Iredell on Oct. 8.
Lake Norman (16-2) also won 3-1 at Mooresville on Oct. 10.
Kesley Sciacca, Charlotte Latin golf: The Hawks' junior shot a 3-under-par 68 to win the CISAA Conference Championship by seven strokes at Pine Island Country Club on Oct. 8.
Sciacca had four birdies in her round the same day.
Sciacca also finished third-place at the Carolinas' Golf Association's Jimmy Anderson Girls' Invitational in New Bern on Oct. 5-6.
Diego Silva, Garinger soccer: The Wildcats' senior scored three goals in a 4-2 win at East Mecklenburg on Oct. 7.
Silva also scored two goals in a 2-1 victory over Independence.
Silva has 31 goals and four assists for a Garinger team (14-3-1) that is a perfect 8-0 in Southwestern 4A conference play and has won nine straight games through Sunday.
Shaili Vemuri, Providence Day tennis: The Chargers' junior earned the decisive victory 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 (tiebreaker) to help Providence Day to a 4-3 win over Cannon School on Oct. 10.
Vemuri also won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and 7-5 at No. 1 doubles in a 4-3 win over Charlotte Latin on Oct. 9.
Vemuri lost 2-6, 2-6 at No. 2 singles, but won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles in a 4-3 loss at Charlotte Latin on Oct. 7.
Vemuri is 9-5 at No. 2 singles and 8-3 at No. 1 doubles for Providence Day (10-6) this season.
