A bicyclist was killed by a Brightline train Saturday in Pompano Beach after attempting to cross the track, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
The high-speed passenger train was traveling north around 1:35 p.m. when it approached the Hammondville Road crossing.
The cyclist, a man whose name was not released, maneuvered around the guard gate and was struck by the train. The victim went airborne, hit a Toyota Corolla and became landed beneath the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses said the crossing arms had been functioning normally at the time, according to the sheriff's office.
