It was Upset Saturday this past weekend with a number of ranked teams falling. For those of you who despise the SEC, Saturday must have brought you much joy as that conference began to cannibalize itself. We saw #1 Alabama, #4 Tennessee, and #9 Missouri all go down in conference road games. The Big Ten, however, was not impervious to the upsets, as teams 11 and 12 in last week's poll both, USC and UM, also lost away from home on Saturday. Predictably, we have another shakeup in this week's rankings. Let's take a look:
A week ago, the SEC had 4 of the top 5. This week, the B1G has 3 of the top 4. Even the ACC's two representatives a week ago have moved up a couple notches.
This was the tightest Player of the Week votes we have had this year. Apparently, when you are the QB of an unranked team who takes down the #1 team in the land, you get some votes, even if you don't have crazy stats. So congrats to Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia on getting an honorable mention this week. But the top prize goes to a repeat winner, Boise running back Ashton Jeanty. Jeanty only played in the first half of his team's blowout of Utah State, but at that point, he already had 186 yards and 3 TDs on just 13 carries. Two of those TD runs were 63 and 75 yards long. He's really good.
With another Player of the Week award, Ashton Jeanty moves to the top of our Heisman watch.
