We received our first good look at Star Wars: Skeleton Crew at the D23 Expo. The teaser leaned into the aura of adventure. With the series premiering next month, we received another trailer that paints a different tone.
Though the latest Skeleton Crew trailer also focuses on adventure, it has a more playful vibe. It harkens back to many of the 80s coming of age tales beginning with two young misfits crossing paths waiting outside the principal's office. Further complementing the vibe is Peter Schilling's synth pop song, "Major Tom (Coming Home)" playing in the background.
The story follows four kids who make a surprising discovery on their home planet, and through freak circumstances, soon find themselves lost in the galaxy. They'll embark on an adventure of a lifetime in order to find their way back home. The predominantly youthful cast along with references to booby traps and pirates and a scene with a room full of treasure gives it a space Goonies feel.
As seen from the video, Jude Law stars alongside the young actors Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, and Robert Timothy Smith. Law's Jod is a character "whose true motives are shrouded in mystery."
TV on the Radio fans will notice Tunde Adebimpe who plays Cabot-Conyers' character's dad. He previously worked with series' creators, Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, on Spider-Man: Homecoming. Adebimpe is a man of many talents, not only with the show coming next month, but he just released a music single, "Magnetic," this week.
