Many Region residents retain fond memories of eating at Boz Hot Dogs when they were growing up, back when the hot dog joint was more prevalent in Northwest Indiana and the south suburbs.
Boz Hot Dogs continues to bounce back, opening its second Northwest Indiana location in a year.
Christine Buzonik, the daughter of Boz Hot Dogs' founders, opened the latest Boz Hot Dogs at 13145 Wicker Ave. in Cedar Lake in the last few days.
The menu includes a jumbo all-beef hot dog, Polish sausage, bratwurst, Italian beef, Italian sausage, Italian beef and sausage, egg salad, grilled cheese, sloppy joes and the class Boz Dog, which is like a Chicago dog but different. It has no poppyseeds or neon green relish. It replaces the traditional pickle with fresh cucumbers and the Vienna Beef dog with a skinless beef and pork frank.
Sides include chips, French fries, cheese fries, chili cheese fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, pizza puffs, pretzels and nachos. Boz air-fries the fried appetizers so they're cooked without grease.

Boz has been a mainstay in Northwest Indiana and the south suburbs for 55 years and once had 50 hot dogs stands, including in Hammond and Griffith, but many closed after the owners retired or died.
Buzonik's parents Don Hart and Roberta Hart opened the first Boz Hot Dogs in 1969 in Dolton, where Don Hart later became mayor.
Boz Hot Dogs now has 10 locations, including in Lansing and Dyer. Back in April, it opened in a former Long John Silver's on U.S. 41 in Schererville, just south of U.S. 30.
Franchisees hope to open more locations in Lowell and Crete. Boz is looking to open more franchises to continue to expand again with a new generation of franchisee ownership.
Buzonik picked Cedar Lake for Boz Hot Dogs' latest location because she's moving there. She located the restaurant in the former Alice Wright Realty office on U.S. 41 in Cedar Lake. It will seat about 20 and have barstools looking out at passing traffic on U.S. 41. All of the Boz Hot Dog restaurants originally had barstools by the windows so workers grabbing lunch could eat a meal alone or with colleagues while looking outside.
Boz Hot Dogs does a strong lunch business at its other locations and draws many workers on their lunch break in particular.
