A leading member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona set a new La Liga season benchmark for completed passes this past weekend.
The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.
Defender Iñigo for his part featured from the off once more on Sunday, as Barcelona welcomed Espanyol to Montjuïc for the season's first edition of The Derbi Barceloní.
When all was said and done in Catalunya's capital, Hansi Flick's troops emerged on the right side of a 3-1 result, courtesy of goals on the part of Dani Olmo (2) and Raphinha.
Post-match, it was the Blaugrana's attacking stars who, once more, therefore took the majority of the plaudits.
As alluded to above, though, continuing to shine bright at the other end of the pitch, too, was defender Iñigo Martínez.
Iñigo has of course established himself as nothing short of an integral figure in the setup of new boss Hansi Flick over the early months of the new campaign.
And, on Sunday, the 33-year-old showcased precisely why once more.
As revealed by statisticians WhoScored:
'Iñigo Martínez made a total of 123 accurate passes against Espanyol on Sunday, the most by a player in a single La Liga match this season.'
