Though No. 2 Georgia pulled off a second-half comeback win over the Florida Gators on Saturday at EverBank Stadium, the massive fight that broke out between two Jacksonville police officers and two Florida fans was all anyone wanted to talk about after the game.
A video went viral from Saturday's game showing one officer repeatedly punching a fan who was lying on the ground while another officer pummeled a defenseless elderly man as fans can be heard screaming "why are you punching him?" and "you're going to kill him."
The context of the video isn't known, but the violence displayed in the clip is hard to simply shrug off. Many on social media were calling for the cops involved to be fired, which is a real possibility after the Jacksonville Sheriff's department released a statement announcing it is looking into the incident.
"The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office's Professional Standards Division is aware of the videos circulating from the Georgia-Florida football game" the statement read. "Administrative reviews of the incidents are being opened. As such, the agency will not comment until all facts are known and the reviews have been completed."
It's not known what started the incident or if any arrests were made following, but in the clip on social media one officer can be seen throwing three punches at a fan on the ground while the other punches an older fan, who didn't appear to be resisting him, seven times before grabbing him and tossing him to the ground.
A longer clip of the incident was later posted by another attendee, and a taser can be heard being used by one of the officers. A third officer is shown int hat clip though it doesn't appear that he struck anyone.
The second officer who wrestled the fan to the ground reportedly was involved in another incident earlier in the day in which he allegedly used his handcuffs as brass knuckles while punching another fan, however, it hasn't been confirmed if it was the same officer or not.
