Paramedics' appeal into neglect conviction starts

An appeal by two Jersey paramedics to challenge convictions of neglect has started.

Paramedic John Sutherland, 66, and technician Tom Le Sauteur, 36, were found guilty in June of failing to take reasonable care for the health and safety of a man who died of an overdose.

Frazer Irvine, 39, died in March 2022 after he called 999 and had a heart attack while paramedics and police officers were at his home in Trinity.

Mr Le Sauteur and Mr Sutherland were each sentenced to a two-year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £500 costs over his death. The appeal case is expected to last two days.

The pair were suspended by Jersey's ambulance service, pending an internal investigation.
