Eureka volleyball wins three at Pekin Invitational

Eureka participated in the eight-team Pekin Invitational on Saturday. During pool play, the Hornets bettered Lena-Winslow 25-22, 25-21, the hosts 25-12, 25-12 and Illinois Valley Central 25-16, 25-12. Deer Creek-Mackinaw beat Eureka 25-22, 25-22 in a semifinal before the Hornets fell 26-24, 18-25, 15-8 to L-W for third.

In other action, Eureka (19-7, 2-2) lost 25-22, 25-22 to Heart of Illinois Conference large division host Dee Mack Thursday at Virgil Jacobs Gymnasium. The Hornets lost 25-21, 25-21 to division guest El Paso-Gridley on Oct. 1.

Pekin Invite

Jessi Rokey provided eight kills, while Elle Blunier handed out 12 assists against L-W. Kayleigh Keim recorded 13 digs. Rokey racked up nine more kills versus the Dragons, while Blunier had 13 assists. Keim and Josie Wiegand each had six digs, while Sophie Musselman served four aces. Musselman (six kills, seven digs) led the way against IVC, while Blunier dished out 12 assists. Musselman had nine kills and 10 digs versus Dee Mack, while Brooke Spangler added 13 assists. Rokey rang up 10 kills against L-W, while Spangler (16 assists), Blunier (15 digs) and Natalie Hobbs (three and a half blocks) were other statistical leaders.

Rokey (seven) and Musselman (six) were the kill leaders, while Wiegand contributed 14 digs.

Rokey and Wiegand recorded six kills apiece, while Blunier churned out 11 assists. Keim chipped in with eight digs.

The Hornets entertained Heyworth in a crossover on Tuesday. This evening, Eureka hosts Farmington at 7 p.m.

Notes: Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin swept Dee Mack 25-17, 25-14 in Saturday's final.
