Back in 2021, Texas football quarterback Quinn Ewers and Clemson's Cade Klubnik battled for the top spot in the recruiting rankings at both a national and state level. Both played at high school football powerhouses in Texas, with Ewers leading Southlake Carroll and Klubnik competing at Westlake.
Ewers reclassified into the 2021 class and became 247 Sports' top recruit in the nation in a class that included current Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Ewers redshirted his freshman season at Ohio State before transferring to Texas prior to the 2022 season.
