Local couple doesn't let Hurricane Helene stop their wedding

Local couple doesn't let Hurricane Helene stop their wedding

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Helene did a number on our area that Friday morning but imagine getting married the day after the hurricane hit.

That was a reality for a local couple.

The community came together to make sure it was still a day to remember.

The road to marriage wasn't always certain for the Fairs.

"I got her number and messaged her. She didn't text me for about six months," said Jack Fair.

Alexandra eventually got around to Jack's messages.

"Six months later, she allowed me to go out with her," said Jack.

From there, they decided to spend forever together.

"I thought it was legit going to be a little bit of rain, didn't think too much of it. Woke up Friday and was like, 'Wow,'" said Jack.

The damage included Alexandra's Airbnb for her family which had a tree crash through the house.

Then, even more bad news followed.

Their original venue for their wedding, River Club, had to cancel.

"I was 100% sure that nothing was going to happen and that it was all going to be lost," said Jack.

Until complete strangers weren't going to let Helene crash their wedding.

The North Augusta Crowne Plaza stepped up to offer a last-second venue change.

"They were fighting for us the entire time. They found out what happened to us and those two ladies there are the ones that really helped us," said Jack. "It just all came together in just a few hours on the rooftop of Crowne and it turned out to be beautiful."

Wifesavers catered the wedding, and they found a last-second DJ to throw the perfect hurricane wedding.

"We were going to get married in the yard if we had to because she had family from Peru. I had friends drive 15, 17 hours from Texas, so we were going to get married regardless," said Jack.

The community came together to bring some love to a community that needed healing.

"They say it's good luck if it rains for your wedding. So if it's a hurricane, it must be very good luck I would think," said Jack.
