Davante Adams wants the Las Vegas Raiders to trade him. Head coach Antonio Pierce has other plans, or so he says.
As a potential trade looms and the two top suitors, the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, deal with tough situations, Adams' immediate future remains a question mark.
In roughly 24 hours, Jets owner Woody Johnson fired head coach Robert Saleh with the team just one game back of the division lead. Meanwhile, in the Bayou, Saints quarterback and Adams' close friend Derek Carr will miss multiple weeks due to an oblique injury.
While it's entirely plausible that either team still makes a full-blown push to acquire Adams, the situation has become somewhat complicated. Pierce addressed the situation Wednesday, and his comments left fans in a whirlwind while adding even more confusion.
Pierce adamantly stated that Adams is "still a Raider" and that will play when healthy. As Pierce told reporters, Adams is "working every day" and is "in the right headspace mentally."
"He's still a Raider. He's never not been a Raider," Pierce said. "When he's healthy and he can play, we'll play him. He's just not healthy right now, and he's getting closer, though; that's the good part."
"He's working every day to get that hamstring right [and] he's in the right headspace mentally. We talked recently and had a good conversation and he's ready to play football."
Pierce also responded to a question about Adams' rehab, revealing that the wide receiver has been rehabbing at the team facility.
