Yankees All-Star predicted to dump NY for $25 million deal with Angels

The New York Yankees have had a busy offseason. They have already lost one All-Star in free agency and could lose another in the coming weeks.

Newsweek's Zach Pressnell predicted that the Yankees would lose Gleyber Torres to the Los Angeles Angels in free agency. Pressnell predicted that Torres would sign a two-year, $25 million deal.

"Los Angeles has already shown a willingness to spend its money by acquiring starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi early in the offseason. The Angels are looking to win and they're looking to win as soon as possible," wrote Pressnell. "Adding Torres, who, at this point in his career, is a low-risk, high-reward infielder, would be a massive addition for the win-hungry Angels."

Torres had a subpar season in 2024. He had 15 home runs and a .257 batting average. However, he still posted an OPS+ over 100. He has 138 career home runs and would be a cheap addition. Torres started his career off with consecutive All-Star selections. The Yankees are expected to be involved in the third base market, which could push Jazz Chisholm Jr. to second base. In that case, the team would not need Torres.

"The Angels need to pounce on the opportunity while it's there," wrote Pressnell. "Worst case scenario, Los Angeles can flip him at the trade deadline this season or next."

The Yankees have the money to keep Torres around, but they are looking for upgrades across the board as they try to replace Juan Soto's production.
