The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team.
With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the 31st of 31 players to don the No. 4 jersey, Boston guard alum Jrue Holiday.
After playing at the NCAA level with UCLA, Holiday was picked up with the 17th overall pick of the 2009 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Chatsworth, California, native would play the first four seasons of his career with the Sixers, as well as stints with the New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks before the latter would trade him to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2023 as part of the deal that netted the Bucks Damian Lillard.
The Blazers would then deal Holiday to the Celtics for Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III, and draft assets that same summer.
During his time so far with Boston (he has yet to depart and wears No. 4 still), the UCLA alum has put up 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and just under a steal per game.
