Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of NFL retirement after coaching prep team to state title

Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement from the NFL to sign with the Detroit Lions after coaching a high school football team to a state championship.

Bridgewater revealed his plans to unretire in an appearance recently on NFL Network, and Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that he and the Lions have come to an agreement to allow him to rejoin the team.

Earlier this month, Bridgewater led his alma mater, Miami Northwestern, to the Florida Class 3A football state title with a 41-0 victory over Raines High School.

Bridgewater played the 2018 and 2019 seasons with the Saints, taking over for an injured Drew Brees and leading the Saints on a 5-0 run as the starting quarterback in his second campaign with the team.

Bridgewater spent the 2023 season with the Lions, but only made a brief appearance in one game that year. He is 33-32 as an NFL starting quarterback, throwing for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions.
