Gotta love it when two rising stars pair up to make a movie. Universal Pictures has secured two rising stars for its upcoming romantic film Italianna, with Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page taking on the lead roles. The project, produced by Will Packer through his Will Packer Productions, will be directed by Kat Coiro, known for her work on Marry Me starring Jennifer Lopez.
Get this, the upcoming film is based on an original concept by screenwriters Ryan and Kristin Engle, though specific plot details remain undisclosed. Universal and Coiro, who previously collaborated on Marry Me, were eager to work together again and quickly locked in Bailey and Page -- two of Hollywood's most sought-after talents -- before fast-tracking production.
Bailey, best known as one-half of the Grammy-winning duo Chloe x Halle, has been expanding her acting portfolio with major roles in The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple. This marks her return to Universal after previously filming Golden, a musical led by Pharrell Williams that was ultimately shelved.
Page, who rose to fame with his breakout role in Netflix's Bridgerton, can currently be seen in Focus Features' Black Bag. His casting in Italianna continues his streak of high-profile projects.
As mentioned, Will Packer, a longtime Universal collaborator, is producing alongside Johanna Byer under his Will Packer Productions banner, which maintains a first-look deal with the studio.
