Melville-based H2M architects + engineers received a Platinum Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies New York for its work on Phase 2A of the Station Yards mixed-use project in Ronkonkoma.
Developed by Tritec Real Estate, the $272 million, 7-acre Phase 2A brought 388 rental apartments and 70,000 square feet of retail space surrounding a 10,000-square-foot village green. Once complete, Station Yards will create 1,450 apartments, 195,000 square feet of retail space, 360,000 square feet of office space, and a public plaza.
H2M provided civil and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for Phase 2A. The sanitary sewer and extensive parking infrastructure will support the changing population density, according to a company statement. The existing overhead electrical and telecommunication infrastructure moved underground, ultimately enhancing community resiliency.
"There is a need for more housing on Long Island and the work we were able to accomplish during this project phase is a step in the right direction for our community," Joel Richardson, assistant vice president and Civil Engineering Department manager at H2M, said in the statement. "Creative engineering practices enable us to provide tailored and sustainable solutions for both our clients and the greater community."
