Fire Sunday afternoon destroys home in Wyoming County Town of Sheldon

Damage was estimated at $50,000 following a fire Sunday afternoon that destroyed a home in the Town of Sheldon, the Wyoming County Office of Emergency Services reported.

Firefighters found the house at 3528 Humphrey Road, at Schwab Road, fully involved in flames when they answered a call about 3:15 p.m. about the blaze.

A resident in the home escaped unharmed and will be living with family, according to the report. One firefighter suffered an undisclosed injury and was treated at the scene.

The North Java Fire Company was assisted by companies from Strykersville, Sheldon, Harris Corners and Wyoming. Firefighters were on the scene for four hours. The cause remains under investigation.
