ESPN predicts Seahawks may deal former Michigan lineman at NFL trade deadline after just 1 year

The Seattle Seahawks are going into the 2024 NFL trade deadline at a bit of an impasse. On the one hand, their three-game winning streak to begin the season inspired a lot of hope that they might be serious playoff contenders this season. However, the three-game losing streak that followed not only dashed those hopes but put a huge dent in their chances of even making the postseason, which are currently around 30%.

That means they could go either way at the trade deadline in a couple of weeks. For what it's worth, ESPN is predicting that the Seahawks sit this one out after dealing for Roy-Robertson Harris last week. However, if somebody does get moved they think it will be second-year center Olu Oluwatimi. Here's Brady Henderson on that possibility.

"Who could be on the move? Center Olu Oluwatimi. He was in line to start at center over the offseason until the Seahawks upgraded that spot by signing Connor Williams. Since then, Oluwatimi has been a healthy scratch in four of six games, as Seattle has kept undrafted rookie Jalen Sundell on the active list instead. However, Oluwatimi would likely have minimal trade value as a 2023 fifth-round pick with one career start, and thus might be more valuable to the Seahawks as an inexpensive depth guy with control of his contract for the next two-plus years."

There is a good case to make here, especially if Oluwatimi is not in head coach Mike Macdonald's long-term plans, Michigan connection aside. Oluwatimi would have a better chance at cracking the lineup if he'd seen more snaps as a rookie, but Pete Carroll only put him out there on offense for one start when Evan Brown was injured.

Then again, the Seahawks already traded Nick Harris to the Cleveland Browns before the season started, and Jalen Sundell has even less experience at this level than Oluwatimi. They are probably better off keeping him than dealing him for what won't be anymore than a sixth-round pick.

While their chances of making the playoffs aren't great, the Roy Robertson-Harris deal indicates the front office is leaning towards being a buyer at the deadline, if anything. If that's the case, Ben Solak believes that Seattle's best trade target is Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd.

"Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd. The Seahawks turned over their linebacker room this offseason to disastrous results, as run defense and play-action pass defense have both hurt the team mightily in the past few weeks. Lloyd is far from a perfect player, but many of his problems remind me of those Patrick Queen endured in Baltimore -- that is, before now-Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald took over the Ravens' defense and put Queen's career back on track. Lloyd would be an immediate upgrade with a high ceiling for improvement."

It's the right kind of idea, but we'd like to see the Seahawks set their sights just a little bit higher. As long as we're looking to pillage Jacksonville's defensive front-seven as much as possible, why not call about linebacker Foye Oluokun? If Macdonald thinks he can get past teams like the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions in the next couple of years, Oluokun is the kind of aggressive move that can get them there.
