Breast cancer survivor living out her dream after beating cancer

HARRODSBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - This month is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a reminder for women to get their annual screenings, and a month to honor survivors.

In this month's Link to Hope, how one Harrodsburg woman is living out a dream after cancer.

Larissa Beckham knows food; it is her passion and happy place.

"Food just makes people happy," said Larissa Beckham.

Her passion for food is also something that got her through a very difficult time.

In April of 2014, at the age of 34, she was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer.

"I thought my life was over. I was going to go for a second opinion, and they said if I waited, I would probably only have three years to live," said Beckham.

Larissa needed chemo, radiation and a lumpectomy.

She vowed fighting was her plan of attack.

"That was my mindset. I'm going to beat this; I'm going to fight this and live my life better than ever," said Beckham.

Living her life better meant chasing her dream of one day starting her own business.

She chose food, of course, starting Daydream Farm Catering and Charcuterie.

"So ten years later, it took some time, but I'm doing it, I'm living my dream. I have so many people in the past ten years that have known about my dream and have been there to try and help me," said Beckham.

From large parties to small gatherings, Larissa wants to use food to bring joy and awareness.

Her grand opening on Sunday, October 20, will highlight Kentucky CancerLink.

The organization isn't something she was aware of during her cancer journey, but she wants people to know the support it can provide.

"Its just a way to share what Kentucky CancerLink does, they are actually going to speak at the event and just bring awareness to that," said Beckham.

Larissa is a survivor who is using her gift of feeding others to be a link to hope as a recipe for others who may face a similar journey.

"I see the good in people, the love and the kindness, and we have to be there for each other," said Beckham.

The grand opening for Daydream Farm Catering and Charcuterie will be Sunday, October 20 from 3-6 at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Lexington.

Tickets are $25, and a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to Kentucky CancerLink.

You may purchase tickets at the door or by emailing [email protected]
