Anaheim will start construction early next year on its 12th fire station, after objections over its location in the Platinum Triangle area delayed the start.

The station is meant to reduce emergency response times in the area, including for major destinations such as Angel Stadium, the Honda Center and the resort area.

It'll be built on a parking lot next to apartments near Angel Stadium on South State College Boulevard.

The fire station became a part of the legal issues raised by the Angels in 2022 after the canceled sale of the stadium to the team. The team's ownership also filed a $5 million claim over the City Council's decision to call off the deal.

The city was in the planning stages for the fire station when the Angels told the city that it couldn't be built there, saying it was an area covered by the stadium lease.

The two sides in July agreed to a $2.75 million settlement for the canceled sale, in which the Angels also agreed to no longer object to the fire station getting built.

The city had purchased a fire engine three years ago for the station, which has been deployed at a firehouse in the Anaheim Hills awaiting the completion.

Construction on the new fire station will begin in the first quarter of 2025 and is expected to be complete by the third quarter of 2026, city officials said. It'll cost about $15 million to build.

The city had originally awarded the contract to a different construction firm in 2022, but the lease issue caused delays necessitating a new contractor, according to a city staff report.

Two buildings will be built on the lot. The main building will hold the fire engine, offices and dorms and the secondary building will hold two ambulance units and display the department's oldest antique response apparatus.

The Platinum Triangle area has undergone significant redevelopment and is expected to continue its growth in the coming years with more apartments and the OCVibe entertainment district.
