First, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster left the game with a hamstring issue during the first quarter. Initially questionable, the wide receiver was eventually ruled out. Later, in the fourth quarter, cornerback Jaylen Watson limped off the field due to a problem with his ankle.
Smith-Schuster is thought to have re-aggravated the hamstring injury he suffered on Thursday in practice. In his post-game press conference, head coach Andy Reid was asked if he expected either Smith-Schuster or Watson would be out long-term.
"I think Jaylen will be, yeah," said Reid of Watson, who was spotted using crutches after the game. "I mean, we'll see what the MRI says, but I don't think that's going to be great news."
Watson won the starting cornerback role opposite Trent McDuffie out of training camp and had been one of Kansas City's pleasant surprises of the 2024 season. Including Sunday, Watson registered 32 tackles on the year, posting Kansas City's top coverage grade via Pro Football Focus.
If Reid's intuition proves accurate, cornerback Nazeeh Johnson looks to be the next man up. It's unclear how the Chiefs may handle replacing Smith-Schuster if he cannot play against the Las Vegas Raiders.
