The MILF Manor alum -- who starred on the TLC dating show's first season -- was recently involved in a "serious scooter accident" that left him with bleeding on his brain and multiple facial injuries, his mom Kelle Mortensen shared in a heartfelt plea for donations to assist with medical expenses.
"I'm reaching out to you today with a heavy heart," she wrote on a GoFundMe page. "This tragic event has resulted in significant complications that will require him to undergo multiple facial reconstruction surgeries."
Facial reconstruction typically involves the use of a person's skin, bone or muscle from other parts of their body to rebuild their facial features, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.
The mother of six -- who appeared alongside her son on the series and returned for its second season in a surprise twist -- said Joey already underwent a three-hour surgery on Oct. 19 and "is facing a long and challenging road to recovery," which includes being placed on a liquid diet for six weeks as well as physical and occupational therapy.
