The Carolina Panthers have not gotten off to a good start against the Washington Commanders in Week 7, thanks in large part to a pair of horrific interceptions quarterback Andy Dalton threw in the first quarter.
Dalton ended a promising opening drive for the Panthers when he threw a pick-six to Dante Fowler Jr. on a failed screen play. After punting on their next drive, Dalton threw another gross interception to Emmanuel Forbes on the team's third drive, putting Carolina in an even worse spot.
The only reason Dalton is on the field for the Panthers is because their supposed quarterback of the future in Young played so poorly in the first two games of the season. With the veteran passer struggling now, though, fans believe that it's time for Young to get another shot on the field.
Even after this second interception, though, Dalton returned to the field for the Panthers, so he hasn't done enough to get benched in favor of Young just yet.
The leash appears to be getting shorter and shorter, though, especially with the game against the Commanders potentially being up for grabs now that Jayden Daniels is out of the action for the time being with a rib injury.
To this point, Dalton has thrown for 896 yards and seven touchdowns, but he's also thrown four interceptions and lost a pair of fumbles along the way. The problem is that Young has only thrown for 303 yards and three interceptions, with his lone touchdown being a rushing score late in their blowout Week 1 loss.
This is certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on, especially if Dalton continues to struggle throughout their contest against the Commanders. But the watch for Young is back on, and after his horrific start to the season, it wouldn't necessarily be a surprise to see him get another shot in Week 7 with Dalton playing poorly.
