Dedric Lastie's nine touchdowns power Riverside past Harlem Berry and St. Martin's

There was no shortage of points in a much-anticipated District 10-1A matchup Friday between Riverside and St. Martin's that saw senior running backs Dedric Lastie and Harlem Berry shine bright.

The LSU commitment Berry did all he could to keep St. Martin's in the game, but it was Lastie and Riverside who had more firepower in a 76-37 Rebels win at home in front of a packed house.

Riverside (3-2, 1-0) saw Lastie pile up 487 rushing yards and nine total touchdowns, with Berry not far off with 320 rushing yards and all five touchdowns for St. Martin's (4-2, 0-1).

Lastie was the star of the night for the Rebels, but quarterback Brock Bourgeois also had a strong night.

Bourgeois found freshman Kenric Johnson for the first score of the game, which was immediately answered by a 76-yard Berry touchdown run to tie things up at 7.

Lastie then took over, his first score coming on an eighteen-yard pass from Bourgeois and then scoring his first rushing touchdown from 12 yards out to put the Rebels up by two scores and then another to put them up 28-7.

Berry then delivered a 65-yard touchdown run to cut the lead to two scores, but Lastie then delivered a 65-yard score of his own.

Berry responded with another touchdown run which was followed up by a 32-yard Lastie score that gave Riverside a commanding 41-20 lead.

Berry scored once more before half from 64 yards out, but St. Martin's could never pull within two scores again the rest of the way after Bourgeois found Nahemiah Phillip for an 18-yard touchdown strike to give Riverside a 48-27 halftime lead.

Lastie then scored from eight yards out in what was the first score of the second half in his first of three second half touchdowns. Berry would score one more, with St. Martin's last points of the game being a 45-yard field goal from Cooper Helmke.

Riverside reached the state finals last season and began district play by taking down the team that appears to be their top challenger in St. Martin's
