Alana Haim of Licorice Pizza fame is going to be back on the silver screen in three high-profile upcoming movies.
Alana Haim came on the scene with her role in the great 2021 Paul Thomas Anderson movie, Licorice Pizza. Now, the acclaimed actress will be starring in three forthcoming films, all of which are highly anticipated. She will be re-teaming with Anderson for his still untitled next movie. Haim will play in a picture with three Oscar-winning actors: Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. Not too shabby. Penn also appeared in the Academy Award nominated gem, Licorice Pizza, as well. Haim is poised to do a memorable turn in this new picture as Anderson is well aware of the actress's very distinct talents.
It is Kristoffer Borgli's film, The Drama, which may be the bigger box-office hit of the other two movies Haim has just become a part of. That picture will star superhero movies alumni, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. With those two stars taking the lead, the picture will truly be a "dream scenario," which, consequently, was the name of director Borgli's acclaimed previous film. That picture starred Nicolas Cage in one of his most nuanced performances and was a bona-fide success for Cage fans from A24.
The other picture Haim is attached to, Kelly Reichardt's The Mastermind, may sound like the more prestigious of the two recent films Haim has been cast in. That's because director Reichardt is due for an Academy Award nod, having made a career out of small but well-received movies. It doesn't hurt that The Mastermind features everyone's favorite "challenger," Josh O'Connor, in the film's principal role and is centered around an art heist. O'Connor wowed viewers this year in Challengers and La Chimera.
Haim would have been nominated for Best Actress for her work in Anderson's 2021 masterpiece but there were so many big name actresses in lead roles that year so it was an uphill battle to make the top 5. Surely, she must have landed in the top 10 that year. She received Critics Choice and Golden Globe nominations for the role she had in Anderson's hugely successful movie. Haim is also a Grammy nominated musician as well who has appeared on "Saturday Night Live."
When Haim appears on-screen, she is a force of nature. She is funny, charismatic and priceless in every moment of Licorice Pizza and her fans are certainly looking forward to seeing all three of her upcoming performances, one of which may get her a nod from the Academy for Best Supporting Actress if all goes well.
