Clemson is down one of its top two running backs headed into the College Football Playoff matchup on Saturday against Texas.
Dabo Swinney confirmed on Monday that second-string back, Jay Haynes, will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury in the ACC Championship Game win over SMU.
"He's out," the head coach said. "He tore his ACL and had surgery (Monday) morning."
Haynes was injured in the third quarter on a kickoff return after taking a direct hit to the knee. To that point, he had five carries for 15 yards against the Mustangs.
The redshirt freshman rushed for 295 yards and three touchdowns this season backing up starter, Phil Mafah. With Mafah being banged up himself, the Tigers will need more from players like Keith Adams Jr., David Eziomume and Jarvis Green.
Eziomume redshirted this season but is eligible to play in all postseason games.
