Robbers point assault rifle at dump truck driver's head

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- Police are looking for three armed men who robbed a dump truck driver while he was fueling up in South Memphis early Tuesday morning.

The Mississippi dump truck driver said he was pumping gas at a business in the 1300 block of Riverside Boulevard off South Parkway when he was approached by the robbers who were inside a white Ford Mustang.

The victim said they were armed with two handguns and an AR-style assault rifle. He said one of the suspects pointed the assault rifle to his face, and another pointed a gun to his stomach and repeatedly said, "where is the bag at?"

He said they left with two debit cards, a fuel card, and his commercial driver's license.

Police said an officer spotted one of the suspects inside a white Mustang at South Parkway East and Florida Street and attempted to pull him over. The officer said the suspect bailed out of the Mustang and was seen stashing a backpack inside a 2000 Land Rover in the 1600 block of Monsorrat Street.

Police said they found a silver revolver and a black ski mask in the back of Land Rover. Officers also found a pair of red and black work gloves and a black hoodie on the property.

MPD has released a video that shows the same suspects breaking into a gray vehicle but has not said where the auto burglary happened. In the video, you can see the suspects are armed with handguns and an assault rifle.

Investigators have not said if the white Mustang or Land Rover were stolen. Both vehicles were towed to the city lot.
