Two SpaceX astronauts, in September, conducted the world's first private spacewalk during the Polaris Dawn mission, marking a monumental day in spaceflight history. But a scary incident occurred just before the astronauts stepped out of SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft.
According to Reuters reporter Joey Roulette, there was a power outage at SpaceX's facility in Hawthorne, California. The unexpected power loss completely halted communications of the ground control with the Dragon spacecraft.
The communication scare lasted for an hour as mission commander Jared Isaacman and mission specialist Sarah Gillis prepared to step out into the vacuum of space.
According to Reuters, the outage occurred as a result of leakage in a cooling system at the Hawthorne facility. Thanks to SpaceX's Starlink network, the Dragon spacecraft, which has four astronauts sheltered inside was able to connect to the ground.

Notably, Polaris Dawn mission was the first time when a laser-based Starlink network was tested in space. It was also the farthest and highest Earth orbit mission ever. Besides, it was also the first time since 1972 that humans went as far as 700 kilometres above Earth.
Launched on September 10, Polaris Dawn ended successfully after five days.
Isaacman, the billionaire who financed the mission has been picked as the next NASA chief. He has two space trips to his name and will fly two more times under the Polaris Program which will end with a crewed Starship mission later this decade.
