1 person hospitalized after Bay City homes catch fire

BAY CITY, MI -- A fire that engulfed two Bay City homes on Saturday, Dec. 21 left one person hospitalized.

The Bay City Department of Public Safety responded to a fire in the 500 block of North Madison Avenue at 11:23 a.m.

A two and a half-story home at 521 N. Madison Ave. was fully engulfed when crews arrived, according to a press release.

Flames spread to its neighbor at 517 N. Madison Ave. due to heavy winds, per the release, as firefighters from multiple departments worked to combat the fire.

One injured person was transported to the hospital, per the release. Another exited the first home as crews arrived. No firefighters were injured.

Details about the injured person's condition were not available.

North Madison Avenue remains closed in both directions as of 8:50 p.m., according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal's office.
