MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Paying tribute to Eliza Fletcher.
St. Mary's Episcopal School is planning a major expansion to its campus by including a new library dedicated to early childhood literacy in Fletcher's name. Officials said the project honors her passion for education.
The school is celebrating her legacy by launching a $10 million capital campaign to renovate and expand its Moss Hall. Fletcher, affectionally called "Liza," was an educator at St. Mary's Episcopal, where she taught 2- and 3-year-olds for seven years.

In September 2022, her life was cut short at age 34 after she was kidnapped and killed during her morning run.
The 9,000-square-foot addition to Moss Hall will feature Liza's Library, new science classrooms, an expanded Maker space and a nursery for faculty children.

The school said the project was designed to foster collaboration, exploration and a lifelong love of learning, embodying the values that Liza held dear. By this past January, the school had already raised 60% of its $10 million goal, demonstrating the community's commitment to the project.
On Friday morning, construction crews will officially break ground on Liza's Library.
