Plaid is to fall as what florals are to spring -- in other words, groundbreaking. This season, we sought out a much-needed refresh of the autumnal pattern, and found that Chloë Sevigny, as always, delivered.
The Monsters actor doubled down on the print for a Friday night out in New York City, infusing it with her evergreen It girl energy. Up top, she wore a green button-up shirt decorated with a white grid pattern, leaving a few buttons undone for an effortless look. Continuing that theme, she paired the top with a plaid miniskirt that knotted in the middle, creating the illusion that a flannel shirt was tied around her waist. The skirt's brown-and-gray fabric slouched off her hips, while a loose "sleeve" dangled from the front.
Sevigny styled the plaid-on-plaid look with a smart pair of black socks and black, lace-up loafers, designed by Natacha Ramsay-Levi in collaboration with ECCO. In hand, she carried a small white purse with brown leather straps and gold hardware, toting the bag by its top handle.
The actor's carefree aesthetic extended upward, where she wore her blonde locks in their natural, unstyled state. She rounded out her look by swiping on a brown eyeshadow and black mascara, adding a mauve lipstick as her finishing touch.
As evidenced by her latest look, Sevigny doesn't follow trends -- she sets them. Last month, she put her own spin on an oversized Phoebe Philo bomber by wearing the outerwear not as intended, but as an avant-garde minidress. The loose ruffles at the bottom of the bomber, which originally served as a standout hem, doubled as a barely-there skirt.
What she reimagines next is unpredictable, but it's guaranteed to be unique.
