After Vanderbilt students tore down the goalpost in the south end zone of FirstBank Stadium and threw it into the Cumberland River when the Commodores beat No. 1 Alabama, 40-35, the Nashville Fire Department retrieved it.

The goalpost eventually got back to Vanderbilt, where the school auctioned off four-inch pieces for $1,005 and eight-inch pieces for $4,035. As of Wednesday, all the pieces have been sold.

The Commodores win was their first over a top-five team in program history.

On Tuesday, construction workers installed a new goalpost in the south end zone of FirstBank Stadium, as seen on the school's construction camera livestream.

Vanderbilt's next home game is Oct. 19 against Ball State. The Commodores (3-2, 1-1 SEC) are on the road at Kentucky on Saturday.

According to a program spokesperson, Vanderbilt already had a backup goalpost on hand. The school always has backups in case of damage, whether it be a rowdy postgame celebration or severe weather. That goalpost was installed, and the school then ordered new backup goalposts. Those will take about a week to arrive.

"I've got to look into the process for that," coach Clark Lea said Tuesday. "I thought, we have a couple that are on wheels, and I thought, we just wheel it over there and have it set up. I guess we're beyond those days. So, yeah, I'm glad to know that we'll have a goalpost next time we're here. And hopefully in the takedown is a one time thing."

Police helicopter footage captured the moment a group of Vanderbilt students threw the goalpost into the river after carrying it 2.5 miles from the stadium and down Broadway.

The school was fined $100,000, paid to Alabama, for the celebration under SEC rules.
