IDAHO FALLS -- Firefighters responded to two fires on Sunday, one of which led police to take a woman to jail.
THE FIRST FIRE
The Idaho Falls Fire Department responded just after 6:15 a.m. on the 5000 block of North 5th East in Idaho Falls. The property owner had called 911 to report a fire involving a rental house in which they saw fire and smoke coming from the roof, according to a news release.
No one was inside the home at the time. When firefighters arrived, they found a fire burning on the back of the house near a wood-burning stove. They quickly put it out.
Estimated damages are around $25,000.
Idaho Falls city spokesman Eric Grossarth said the fire had no official cause. However, it was near a chimney.
"As we see colder weather season begin here in Idaho Falls, people use fireplaces and wood stoves to heat their homes," said Battalion Chief Mark Pitcher in a news release. "This is a good time to remember to have your chimneys inspected and cleaned. The buildup of creosote or other combustible materials inside a chimney can lead to fires, so it's important to complete your annual maintenance before igniting any fire to keep warm."
THE SECOND FIRE
While firefighters were at the first fire, a report of a possible house fire on East 10th Street came in after 6:45 a.m.
Idaho Falls Police Department spokeswoman Jessica Clements said a resident in a home lit clothes inside a garbage can on fire. Officers arrived and extinguished the fire before it could spread. The fire department also responded to the scene.
Clements said Serrena Jensen, 41, was arrested for felony third-degree arson in this incident.
