Apple Reportedly Ready to Start Mass Production on M4 MacBook Air

The entry-level MacBooks will retain the design but get a chipset upgrade.

Apple is ready to begin mass production of M4 MacBook Air models ahead of an early 2025 release, reports Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models will retain the previous generation's design, and the M4 chip will be the only significant change, Gurman says. The upgrade is part of Apple's decision to equip its entire Mac lineup with M4 chips, he adds.

The first set of Macs to receive the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips will be unveiled next week, Gurman says. If earlier rumors are to go by, the initial refresh will include the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, Mac mini, and iMac. Following this, the MacBook Air models are expected to receive the M4 chip upgrade between January and March 2025.

Mac Studio was also in the fray for an M4 upgrade alongside the MacBook Airs, but it has now been pushed back a few months and will be released between March and June 2025, Gurman adds. Apple is also working on the new Mac Pro. The high-end machine, which received the M2 Ultra upgrade last year, is expected to get a premium M4 chip next year.

Also on tap for 2025: the iPhone SE 4.

On the software front, Apple is set to roll out its first set of Apple Intelligence features with iOS 18.1 on Oct. 28. If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or later, be sure to keep your device updated to receive the AI features.
