Thompson stopped 26 of 31 shots in Saturday's 6-5 overtime win over the Devils.
This was far from Thompson's best performance, but at least he got the win to move to a 2-0-0 record. However, his 3.41 GAA and .877 save percentage are both subpar numbers compared to what he's posted over the previous two seasons in which he's made at least 35 starts, so it's safe to say the Capitals' offense has been saving him in the early stages of the season. The Capitals have rotated goalies in their first four games of the campaign, so it remains to be seen if he'll get the start for Tuesday's matchup against the Flyers in the first half of a back-to-back set against Philadelphia.
