PAINESVILLE, Ohio (WOIO) - A Painesville man accused of fatally shooting a teenager in July 2024 has a plea hearing in Lake County Court of Common Pleas Thursday.
Willoughby police said Fernando Alejo murdered Rogelio Cabrera, 17, of Madison around 12:30 a.m. on July 13, 2024.
Cabrera was found lying on the ground in the alleyway near Barrio Tacos on Erie Street.
Alejo fled the scene after the shooting and was arrested several hours later in Indiana.

Alejo was indicted on the charges of murder, tampering with evidence, and illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit business.
The affidavit filed in Willoughby Municipal Court states Alejo and Cabrera had lived together for the last three months.
"He was somebody that was like an older brother to him," said Rogelio's sister, Kayla, previously told 19 News. "That's how my brother looked at him."
