Two people were injured and a significant amount property was damaged during an overnight fire Saturday in the city of Sparta.
According to the Sparta Area Fire District, firefighters were called shortly after midnight to a report of a structure fire at 100 Avon Road. By the time firefighters arrived, three house trailers and six vehicles were burning. Neighbors broke a bedroom window to help occupants escape one of the burning trailers.
Two people were transported to Mayo Health System in Sparta, where they were treated for cuts and burns.
Three families have been displaced. Fire chief Mike Arnold said they are staying with relatives or being assisted by the Red Cross.
Firefighters remained on the scene for five hours.
Arnold said his department has determined the fire's area of origin. He said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
