"We we're just the more excited team to step on the mat," CSUB head coach Luke Smith said. "We talk about having that Bakersfield grit."
It was also the first CSUB home dual meet for No. 1 ranked 197-pounder in the country in former national champion A.J. Ferrari, who won his match via Major Decision (MD) against No. 27 Remy Cotton.
"This is what we live for and you got to take it,. No one gives you anything, no one gave me a national championship, no one gave us this dual meet, we took it, today" Ferrari said. "Everyday you win a day and come in here and take the match and our team will be a top three team, I promise you that."
"We're happy to have him [A.J. Ferrari].," Smith said. "He's been a great leader on the team, he's very discipline. I think he's only going to get better from here."
