Fundraiser aiding families of Pecos house fire

Oct. 16 -- An online fundraiser seeks donations for two Pecos families that recently lost their homes in a fire.

The Friday afternoon fire destroyed two houses, as well as several vehicles and RVs. There were no injuries, said Santa Fe County spokesperson Olivia Romo.

Santa Fe County firefighters were dispatched to the blaze on Camino Alto, along with responders from Rio Arriba and San Miguel counties and the city of Santa Fe, Romo wrote in an email. She said the cause of the fire was under investigation.

An online fundraiser for the two families states 10 people total "lost all of their belongings and vehicles in a devastating house fire." The fundraiser, organized by the El Dorado Parent Teacher Association, notes three children who were affected by the fire attend El Dorado Community School. The fundraiser had raised almost $1,900 as of Wednesday evening.

The fundraiser requests donations of cash, clothing and gift cards -- for grocery stores, Walmart and Target -- to be donated online or to the school.
