A 60-year-old woman killed in a hit-and-run collision while riding a scooter in Cathedral City was identified Monday, and police located a suspect.
Officers received a report Friday at 12:46 a.m. of a woman "down in the roadway" near the area of East Palm Canyon Drive and Bankside Drive, according to the statement from the Cathedral City Police Department.
Officers found Christina Barrington with severe injuries, and her scooter was located more than a quarter of a mile away, police said.
Paramedics took Barrington to Desert Regional Medical Center, where hospital staff informed the department on Saturday that she had died.
The investigation led officers to believe that Barrington was riding her scooter eastbound on East Palm Canyon Drive when a vehicle struck her from behind. The vehicle "[dragged] the scooter a significant distance while fleeing the scene," police said.
On Monday, traffic investigators located a suspect and the vehicle in Rancho Mirage, according to police.
