Tennessee Garage Billed as a One-Bedroom 'Bardominium' Hits the Market for $185K

Truth: With a housing market as tight as it is in some places, home conversions are increasingly common across the nation.

Enter a very quirky Gainesboro, TN, home that is causing quite the stir among homeowners after hitting the market for just $184,900. The catch? It's actually an old garage.

That's right, the property, which is around 90 minutes east of Nashville may well be billed as a "barndominium" in its listing, but the large garage door that takes up almost the entirety of the front wall suggests that it was initially built for a very different purpose.

The tiny one-bedroom, one-bathroom property offers a simple, open-plan layout for those who don't mind living (and cooking!) in the same space that once housed several vehicles.

Still, for those eager to embrace a more scaled-back lifestyle, this home may well present the ideal opportunity.

"Nestled on four unrestricted acres," per the listing, the one-bedroom dwelling comes complete with a newly constructed chicken coop and a large, detached carport (an essential amenity when your garage becomes your home).

Made from aluminum siding on the interior and exterior, with finished wood flooring underfoot, the one-room space in the Seven Knobs community "is the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern comfort," per the listing.

Heat and AC are provided by a mini split HVAC system, and there's a sizable wood-burning stove for more warmth in winter months.

You can also roam the grounds, which are a mix of cleared and wooded terrain, perfect both for exercise or with a loyal dog -- or perhaps for use in expanding the current structure.

Despite the glowing listing details, the home has become the source of much amusement on Reddit, where it was posted by one user who joked that the property is essentially a drive-in kitchen.

"Did you ever want drive your car into your kitchen? Well you can now!" they wrote, alongside several images of the home.

"This is perfect for bringing in groceries. Just drive up to the kitchen and offload," another commenter added, prompting someone else to joke that you don't need to drive "up to" the kitchen when you can, in fact, drive "into" it.

Beyond the convenience of being able to drive your vehicle inside your home, others admitted that they were turned off the property because of its aluminum walls, which they suspect will not make for the warmest of living spaces.

"Doesn't look like it has any insulation," wrote one, as another agreed: "My first thought, that thing would be hell to live in."

Meanwhile, another Redditor quipped, "Perfect for your wife's annoying brother that just got fired. Again."
