(WJET/WFXP) - Applications are now open to hire new firefighters for the Millcreek Township Fire Department (MFD).
The department is looking to hire 15 full-time firefighters thanks in part to the FEMA SAFER grant program.
The program will take care of funding these positions until the grant period ends, which will then be permanently funded by the township.
In all, this initiative adds to Millcreek's transition to a combined department of paid and volunteer firefighters, which has 11 full-time and 25 part-time firefighters who were hired in the past year.
