FRANKLIN, Ky. (WSMV) - One person was killed and another was injured in an early morning crash on I-65 southbound in Kentucky on Sunday.
Kentucky State Police (KSP) said the crash occurred in Simpson County near mile marker 6 on I-65 southbound around 2:50 a.m.
The preliminary investigation shows that a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 24-year-old Alberto Andres of Portland, TN, was traveling southbound on I-65. His truck drove off the road and crashed into the trailer of a commercial vehicle on the shoulder, KSP said.
Andres was transported to Nashville with unknown injuries. The passenger in that Silverado, 24-year-old Bartolo Freciso of Portland, TN, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the commercial vehicle, Tiras Prothro, 41, of Chicago, IL, was not injured in the collision.
The Simpson County Sheriff's Office, Simpson County EMS and the Simpson County Fire Department all assisted KSP on scene.
The investigation into this crash is ongoing, KSP said.
