BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) - Three Boardman police officers were honored at Tuesday evening's township trustees meeting for their efforts in finding a man who'd gone missing.
Honored were Sergeants Jon Martin and Joe Olinger, along with Officer Breanna Jones.
On August 1, a 70-year-old man with serious medical issues went missing. When he wasn't found by the next day, the three diligently worked together and eventually found him dehydrated near State Street in Struthers.
Chief Todd Werth said it's likely the man would not have survived.
"On a daily basis, I think everyone understands what police officers do as far as enforcement. But there's things like that -- extra efforts, dedication, teamwork -- that truly is not really a law enforcement nature but really has an impact on not only an individual, but their family, bringing someone home safely," he said.
Olinger, along with Daryn Tallman and Joe O'Grady were sworn in as Boardman's newest sergeants at the trustees meeting. Chief Werth called them the next generation of leaders in the Boardman Police Department.
