Wichita police say the man killed Saturday in an officer-involved shooting near 45th North and Ridge Road is 27-year-old Jonathan Macias.

Macias is a resident of Sedgwick County. Authorities said over the weekend that he was fatally shot after charging at law enforcement officers.

The officers went to the 6900 block of Childs Street after a man called 911 at 7:06 a.m. on Saturday, saying "he was armed and going to shoot people," according to a Monday news release from Wichita police. The department is investigating the shooting.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, the Kansas Highway Patrol and police officers from Maize, Park City, Valley Center and Colwich responded to the 911 call, the release says.

After about an hour of trying to negotiate with Macias, "there was an officer involved shooting involving officers and deputies from multiple police agencies," according to the release. It wasn't immediately clear how many officers fired and who fired the fatal shot.

Authorities said Saturday that Macias was wearing body armor and getting in and out of a vehicle that he drove around dirt roads in the area before the deadly shooting. He got out of the vehicle and charged at law enforcement officers around 8:15 a.m., police said. Officers fired in response.

Macias was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:28 a.m.

The Wichita Police Department is expected to release more information during a press conference Tuesday.

"Interviews and scene investigations are still ongoing," the news release says.
