Police said they were searching for a male suspect after a "serious assault" in Plymouth on Wednesday evening, January 22.

A person was found seriously injured on the city's West Hoe Road. The person was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Derriford Hospital, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

"A large number of police units remain on scene conducting extensive enquiries and searches in the area to locate a male suspect," police said.

The suspect and victim are believed to be known to each other, according to police.
